Md Mizanur Rahman is a PhD student of Politics at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC). Before UCSC, he had academic training at Illinois State University, South Asian University, New Delhi, and Chittagong University, Bangladesh. Rahman is also an Assistant Professor (on leave) at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University, Gopalganj, Dhaka.
His area of research includes Islamic political thought, comparative political theory, Islam and liberalism, and South Asian politics. Rahman’s current research project looks at the life of liberalism in Muslim societies, examining selected Islamic scholars’ critical engagement with liberal ideas in the late colonial South Asian political context. Previously, he undertook research projects on veiling and the making of Muslim subjects, the politics of Islamic seminaries, and Islam and modernity in Bangladesh. Rahman’s research articles and reviews appeared in numerous refereed journals.
