Profile Details

Debi Karmakar is Research Associate at the Centre for Governance Studies. She holds Bachelor's and Master's degrees in International Relations from the University of Dhaka. Since joining CGS in 2023, she has contributed to multiple projects addressing misinformation and fact-checking in Bangladesh, including Confronting Misinformation in Bangladesh (2023-2024), and co-led Defending Digital Spaces and Uniting Against Misinformation in Bangladesh (2024-2025). She was research team member for the fact-checking manual ‘What is Misinformation’, ‘The Current State of Fact-Checking in Bangladesh’, and the ‘Bangladesh 2024 Election-Related Violence and News Reporting Analysis’.
Debi co-led the Bay of Bengal Conversation 2023–2024, CGS’s flagship event, serving as lead communication liaison and session coordinator. She has also contributed to the Bangladesh Nagorik Project(2022-2024) with CIPE.
As Associate Editor of the Journal of Governance, Security & Development, she has overseen the publication of Volumes 4, 5, and 6 (2023–2025) as an editorial board member. In this role, she manages editorial communications, copyediting, social media promotion, and liaison with the advisory board. Additionally, Debi regularly writes articles and op-eds in national English-language newspapers on geopolitics, with a focus on South Asia, East Asia, Europe, and the Arctic region.
