Ahmed Shafiqul Huque, (PhD, University of British Columbia) is a Professor in the Department of Political Science at McMaster University, Canada. He has previously taught at University of Chittagong, University of Dhaka, and City University of Hong Kong. He held visiting appointments at the University of East Anglia (United Kingdom), Victoria University of Wellington (New Zealand), Chiang Mai University (Thailand), Lingnan University (Hong Kong), and University Brunei Darussalam. His research interests are in the areas of public policy and management, development, governance and globalization. He has served as the Associate Head of the Department of Public and Social Administration at the City University of Hong Kong, and Chair of the Department of Political Science at McMaster University.
Dr. Huque served as the Editor-in-Chief of the peer-reviewed journal Public Administration and Policy(1993-2005). He was Contributing Editor for Southeast Asia of the Encyclopedia of Public Administration and Policy(2002-06). He has published articles in leading international journals including Public Administration Review, Governance, International Review of Administrative Sciences, Public Management Review, Public Administration and Development, International Journal of Public Administration, Journal of Commonwealth and Comparative Politics, and International Review of Public Administration.He co-edited special issues of the International Journal of Public Administration, International Journal of Public Leadership, Asian Education and Development Studies, and Public Administration and Policy.
Dr. Huque has published 15 books including Managing Public Services, Public Service in a Globalized World, Public Sector Reforms in Developing Countries, Managing Development in a Globalized World, The Enigma of Development, International Development Governance, The Civil Service in Hong Kong, and Public Administration in the NICs.
Outside the academic world, Dr. Huque provided consulting services to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, Hong Kong Government, USAID, DANIDA, and SIDA. He served as the Vice President of Hong Kong Public Administration Association, and was a commentator on South Asian affairs for CNN Asia during 1999-2003.
