Abstract
As the 21st century progresses, the level of competition and conflict between the Global North and the Global South continues to increase in intensity. The incumbent hegemonic order, the Western centric United States unipolar order (Global North) is being perceived as entering a state of relative decline in relation to the rise of the Non-Western centric multipolar order (Global South). At this stage, the Global North has defended its hegemonic position against the challenger. These two global orders have rather different visions and approaches to defending or challenging for the status of global hegemon. The Global North takes a rather ideological and messianic approach to prevail in the global competition for power and influence, whereas the Global South is much more pragmatic in their quest to secure their interests and goals.
